Meshtastic Messenger -The best solution for License-free off-grid Communications

Meshtastic is an increasingly popular open source project designed to be installed on compact and inexpensive off-the-shelf devices to create a mesh network capable of long range and low power networking without any dependency on the power or communications grid.

Nodes can use the Meshtastic Mesh Network to send text based communication, and telemetry data such as GPS coordinates, temperature, air pressure and humidity readings. Other features include the ability to remotely control other devices and equipment, as well as monitor sensors remotely

Meshtastic uses a communication protocol called LoRa, which uses radio waves similar to wifi but at a lower frequency, this means the signal can travel many further distances and at lower power levels, however, there is a major trade off, a significantly lower data transmission rate.

Meshtastic leverages this LoRa technology to create a mesh network of nodes that can relay messages on towards its intended recipient, allowing for a completely off grid long range communications solution

To get a node up and running and contribute to your local mesh it's relatively straight forward and inexpensive.

Now you simply need to flash the device with the easy to use web based Meshtastic online flasher, before powering up and setting some simple configuration settings

The primary intended use case for Meshtastic is text based communication, a simple iteration of instant messaging and SMS text messages, but without any reliance on additional infrastructure.

Text messages can be sent from one Node directly to another Node via the Nodes that make up the mesh network between them, text can also be sent to channels or group chats, and these messages will be received by other nodes which also have that channel configured.

Encrypted communication can be achieved if both nodes set a private PSK protected channel

In addition to text communication, Meshtastic also has the ability to send telemetry data over the network, the most common use for this feature is to broadcast a node's GPS location coordinates to the Mesh, this can be done privately or publicly if the latter the nodes location will also be displayed on the mesh map within the client applications. Some Meshtastic compatible devices have built-in GPS capability however on the vast majority a GPS module can be added inexpensively

Another popular typer telemetry data broadcast on the Mesh is environmental data such as Temperature, Humidity, and Barometric Pressure, to enable this function on your node you simply need to install a module such as a BME280

Other notable features of Meshtastic, referred to as modules, include Canned Messages, Sensor Detection, Remote Hardware Control, External Notifications, Store and Forward Messaging, Remote Node Administration, Bluetooth and WiFi Packet Counter, Built-in Range Testing and Much more

While Meshtastic has been around for a few years now, recently it's been growing into something really special, with the number of nodes and the size of the many mesh networks growing exponentially

As news spreads and more and more nodes come online, the power of the Meshtastic mesh network increases, along with the chances of Meshtastic remaining popular well into the future, perhaps one day even becoming mainstream

Whatever comment I made here was a glitch of youtube and was meant to be on an entirely different video. seen it before, pretty sure its replicable if I put in the effort.. was totally off topic.

This comment is just props for the algor as I did pass through and browsed and small channels can always do with the boosts.

I follow James Hansen and the latest climate science, so I do not expect many people around to enjoy these widgets fairly near, but awesome idea in principle. lol
