Duchess becomes patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance

We all know that pregnancy, childbirth and the first months and years of a child's life can be hugely demanding.
Over the last decade, charities and organisations have come together to transform attitudes, raise awareness and ensure that services are available to parents and babies at this important time in their lives.
Much of this work has been led by the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, a fantastic organisation which I am extremely proud to become patron of today.

I've been a mental health patient for over 25 years because my parents did not provide stability, unconditional love & acceptance for me. Every child I've ever had in my life knew I loved them. My best friend had twins. Her son Dylan was my best little buddy! He even jumped off his bunk bed like a monkey onto me and clung tight because he hadn't seen me in 2 years. We had only talked on the phone. He told me, " I never stopped loving you Aunt Kate! I knew you would come home."
I feel the women & children you meet will change our world because of your kindness & beauty of spirit!

This is the most important part of life for us and new mums have multiple challenges- physical, mental, financial, emotional, social and in intimate relationships, any one of which can be overwhelming singly to anyone. We are not designed to be in isolation at this time, the care and understanding of groups is a lifeline to young mums.
My own post-natal isolation had heartbreaking outcomes, it is so wonderful to think we are on the way to prevent the same for others. Delighted to see such a wonderful Mum as Patron.
