A Walk Through Downtown Holland, MI

The dogs walked through downtown Holland, MI. And I must say, their downtown is huge. Holland, MI is never named among the large cities but the downtown felt like being in a much larger city.

Named one of “America’s Prettiest Towns” by Forbes Magazine, and an “All-American City” by the National Civic League, downtown Holland’s cobblestone sidewalks line the streets with over 100 unique and locally owned shops, galleries, eateries, and brew pubs.

Downtown stays active year-round thanks to our snowmelt system, the largest municipally-owned system in the country. Snowmelt keeps downtown sidewalks and streets snow and ice-free, allowing people to stay active during the winter weather.

Downtown Holland’s beautiful Victorian architecture, brick sidewalks, and outdoor sculptures offer the perfect atmosphere for a cozy, quaint, and unique shopping experience. With over 200 businesses, including art galleries, wine tasting, and shops that feature men’s, women’s and children’ apparel, home and outdoor furnishings, home accents, books, music, sporting goods, jewelry, gifts, and more, Downtown Holland Michigan offers memorable and affordable shopping!

The downtown Holland website also lists all the different stops that are dog friendly by including a paw print next to them on the site.

Unfortunately, we didn't know at the time that the downtown area had a guide for which places allowed dogs, and we asked at a few different places and got turned away from patio seating. We ended up finding a dinner spot just outside of downtown, so it all worked out. But after the frustration we had in downtown, and the fact that we had already done a lot of walking that day, we decided to head back early for the evening and called it a day at 6p.

If you're going to Holland, MI check the guide! It would absolutely be worth it to find out ahead of time which shops you can enter with dogs, etc.

The State Park located close by, Holland State Park, does allow dogs on the trails, but no dogs allowed on the beach. We drove through the parking lot just to see it but we don't want to go anywhere on a warm day where the dogs can't take a cooling swim, especially Beo. I'm sure there's a "locals secret," somewhere close for where dogs can swim but we didn't ask.

Lake Macatawa runs through Holland, MI and there is a cool Riverwalk and other beautiful views that we didn't even get to see in this trip. You can only do so much in 3 days! And we asked a lot of Beo already. For an old dog with hip dysplasia, he did a ton of walking and honestly seemed just fine. I might baby him too much, but that's discussed in another video.

We seen some cute dogs while walking around downtown Holland, and there were some doggy poop bag stations set up.
