Car Tent Camping in the Rain and Storm.

We made it back to Maleny and what a trip it was. I enjoyed it so much, the scenery was just stunning. We were above the clounds, in the clouds, below the clouds. The rain was nice, but it got windy and stormy time to time. Thankfull the shelter was well setup and it did not ruin our camping experience.

A month ago I lost my best friend Marshmallow. He was my rock and loved camping. He died of a massive heart attack in my arms on the way to the vets. He would have been 14 in May and I had him since he was 6 weeks old. A year ago he lost his hearing but, As soon as i took a slice or block of cheese out of the fridge. He was right there. Love and miss you Marshmallow.

When I was in Boy Scouts in the late 70's to early 80's, we had a great time. There were only eight of us in two patrols, one of our two leaders was an ex-Para! I loved camping with the Scouts, it is what made me love bushcraft and everything else about getting out there.

Part of camping for me, is the set-up. There is nothing better than arriving at camp and taking the time to make an excellent camp, shelter, fire, dry areas, wood storage, bushcraft and campcraft sessions, and entertainment...working on the camp over your stay and making it dry, warm...or cool, safe, comfortable, and looking perfect. I have never seen the point of massive trailers, campers, and motorhomes that feel like penthouse apartments. There is nothing wrong with a small van, or tiny trailer, but nothing beats a well set tent, a cot, and the sound of rain! Each to their own I suppose.

I love Ted's raincoat, and the Turtle Dome, while a bit time-consuming and complex, seems to be perfect for that type of trip...though a longer stay would be better! The only difference in my set-up with something like this, is that I could never cook that close to our tent, not in bear country!!!

I wonder what the first non-Indigenous people must of thought of Australia when they first got there! Beautiful countryside, desert, rain forest, lovely glens, jungle, and the danger to go with the beauty. I guess it wasn't a lot different from Canada, though not everything here wants to kill you...a lot do, but not everything!!! LOL!
