One of the few fights in Cuphead that genuinely unsettled me.

The shattered, twitching hourglass…the angel’s singing…the music that feels like absolutely nothing you would expect to hear in Cuphead…the fact the music doesn’t restart when you die…the giant devil skeleton in the background…everything about this fight is just so _eerie._

Something about this theme is just... creepy.
The hourglass it shattered, Cuphead is taking a nap, the fighting, and everything else.

can we talk about the poor shattered hour glass???

If the hourglass was just shattered, that would be creepy, but the fact that it’s.. twitching. Writhing. It’s suffering

This boss stands out from the other bosses in Cuphead. Every single boss before this one had some wacky animations and voice clips, even ones like Phantom Express and Devil still had music that made you go “Oooh it’s a train full of ghosts and stuff!” and “Oh shit it’s the Devil!” in a way that made you appreciate the artsyle.

This boss? It’s very, VERY much different. The music is pretty unsettling for a game like Cuphead, the angel singing in that weird voice was kinda creepy, the fact that apparently the music doesn’t reset after you die and continues to play even when retrying the boss is even more creepy.

But to me the main reasons why this boss is eerie are as follows:
1.The hourglass is shattered on the floor and is twitching in pain

2. The fact that you need to fall asleep in the graveyard in order to access this boss in the first place

The only boss that might have even a bit of lore to it.

I noticed that once Cuphead/Mugman fall a sleep and while the screen is loading, notice that the hourglass that was always jumping on every loading screen... is shattered... Broken.. Yeah, something about this fight... Doesn't feel right. Talk about spooky

It's "Admission to Perdition" the first phase of One Hell of a Time which was my favorite part. So i love this dark feel beneath all the cartoonyness.

This is really unsettling I will not lie, makes the devil feel scarier then he did in the original story tbh

I have a lot to say:
1. It almost doesn't feel the same without the angel's occasional...um. S. Singing? And whatever the demon has going on.
2. Hourglass being shattered on the loading screen has Creepypasta energy. Cuphead.exe type beat.
3. It took me far too long to get the gimmick of this fight because I panic when I'm confused and the frantic turning did not help me figure it out. 😭

this is by far the best soundtrack in the game. The thing i love is that there's not even a spark of cheerful cartooniness in it. It's all just so eerie and unsettling. Really gives the feeling of "You shouldn't have done that bud", or that's what it's like for me anyways.

Two things:

1. a VERY small, near unnoticeable detail, but… the Death Quote right? All of the other death screen dialogues in the game have quotation marks because the boss you’re fighting is taunting you. In the Death Phrase here (Wish you may, Wish you might, your soul is trapped in endless night) Does NOT have the quotation marks around it implying that the Angel and Devil are not speaking to him. Who, or for a better question, WHAT is speaking to the player when they die?

2. This was actually supposed to be a scrapped phase/attack for the Devil in the base game. If that’s the case I REALLY wished they brought back the Demon Vampire from the first trailers and screenshots. Maybe as a phase two to this fight.

“i could be your angle… or yuor devil” meme but actually it’s TWO devils

Isn’t it funny how you can’t actually face the Angel in this fight and always face towards the Devil? I feel as if it’s supposed to be symbolic in some way, as if Cuphead is supposed to *face* his demons, yet always has a guiding Angel *behind* him.

I'm so glad I didn't get spoiled for this boss. Took me a long time to figure out to unlock it.

this song gives me chills... everything is dark, it seems that there is something more behind it, but i don't know what it is...

I believe this fight is a result of Cuphead’s PTSD of fighting The Devil himself, as he is asleep during the entire fight. The things that spook me the most, however, are the fact that the music doesn’t restart when you die, and that the death quote doesn’t have quotation marks around it, which I think is Cuphead imagining himself dying to the Devil over and over again.

This boss fight theme is reminiscent of the one hell of a time, which is the devils theme. You can hear it’s undertones underneath the great music. Even the name isn’t dissimilar!

Is this the only time the music doesn't reset when retrying the boss?

Slight unnerving thing thats rather subtle and subconscious: When you die to any other boss, the music slows, distorts, etc and resets to the beginning next attempt. This one... I didnt have it di that. You die, retry, do anything, and the ominous music still advances forwards... Marches on. Just unsettled me a lot before and after I even realized it was going on
