Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (1805-1847) was a German composer and pianist in the Romantic era. She wrote over 125 pieces for piano, most of which remained unpublished during her lifetime as her family was ambivalent about her musical ambitions. Her prodigious piano skills were similarly limited to concerts within the family. Her Melodie Op. 4, No. 2 in C-sharp minor was composed in 1846.

To celebrate Women's History Month, I'll be posting a video of one piece by a woman composer every day of March. Mostly short beginner and intermediate works, I hope these recordings will inspire piano instructors to include more women composers in their teaching repertoire, and encourage everyone to explore more works by women in their music listening. Happy listening! 💗🎶
