EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) & Its Significance in Lung Disorders | Dr Nitin Rathi
Показать описание
EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) is an ultrasound of the bronchial tubes or airways in the lungs. Dr Nitin Rathi, Senior Consultant in Pulmonology at Dharamshila Narayana Hospital, Delhi, discusses EBUS and its power in the precise diagnosis of lung disorders.
Unlike other ultrasounds performed externally, EBUS involves an internal imaging technique into the bronchial tubes.
When and Why is EBUS Performed?
Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is performed when patients present with symptoms such as a persistent dry cough, coughing blood, or shortness of breath. Doctors may order a chest X-ray to examine the lymph nodes. Enlarged lymph nodes can have various underlying causes, including infections (especially in children), tuberculosis (TB), sarcoidosis (an immune disease), or cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma.
EBUS is a minimally invasive procedure conducted under local anaesthesia, usually in a daycare setting. During the procedure, an ultrasound is used to guide the collection of tissue samples from the lymph nodes for diagnosis. This approach allows for precise and accurate sampling, facilitating early detection and effective disease treatment. EBUS represents a significant advancement in pulmonology, improving the accuracy of diagnoses and reducing treatment times.
Dr Nitin's insights into EBUS help us understand its critical role in diagnosing respiratory conditions, enabling timely and precise treatment for better patient outcomes.
