The VSCO Girl Epidemic | Fashion and The Zeitgeist of an Era

I’m a little late with this trend, but in my defense you should be use to that by now lol.

If you’ve been around the internet, chances are you’ve come across “The VSCO Girl” or at least heard about her. What exactly is a VSCO Girl? The VSCO girl describes a fashion trend/lifestyle often followed by Gen Z teenagers. This trend/lifestyle has a distinct look that is easily spotted on places like Tik Tok and Instagram. Because of its popularity, it has become (in my opinion) one of the most meme’d fashion trends of 2019 in close competition with “The E Boy”. What exactly has led to the VSCO Girl epidemic? We discuss that in today’s video.

I feel like.. VSCO girls represent fake authenticity/relatability. It's like "yeah, I'm just like you -- i wear birks and big shirts and don't really shower [BUT I'M ALSO WHITE, SKINNY, 20, AND MOST LIKELY MIDDLE-UPPER CLASS]" But there is always a darker side to these trends I guess, and honestly, it is a nice change from the traditional, picture perfect vlogger/instagrammer. Also, the fact that sustainability is becoming trendy is AMAZING and I'll take that any day.

Also, I found your connection to the Flappers really interesting -- not something I even thought about, but there is actually a HUGE parallel there.

The VSCO girl aesthetic is literally every girl I knew c. 1993, including myself. I grew up along the FL beachfront and we all looked exactly like that. There truly is nothing new under the sun. Everything is recycle-rinse-repeat.

Teen girls are the most criticized people on the internet. Let them do what they want! People focus so much on judging others. Maybe focus on actual problem, not petty ones? I find it so much more cringy watching grown ass men make fun of teenage girls. Not to mention, everyone making fun of them are making the same unoriginal jokes? They're jumping on a whole other bandwagon which is much more sad.
EDIT: This comment is directed at the people who make fun of them, not you Donna. I love your videos and insight so much! Also, it's perfectly fine to poke fun at people, or the world would be boring. I love comedians that make fun of rangas, vegans, people with dead mothers (all me), because it's actually funny/original and in good jest. These other people make fun of them with bad intentions and to put them down.

Ok, but really Hydroflacks are legit. My husband started using one about 5 years ago and I saw how well they worked. It's the best water bottle I've ever had. I also like that you can get such large sizes so you don't have to worry about refilling throughout the day.
