Simulated soldering to CR2032 lithium battery, can coin cells really explode just from soldering heat?

Don't try this at home kids, filmed through Polycarbonate shield.

I managed to explode a CR2032 with a screwdriver trying to pry it out of the housing it was in. I must have shorted it somehow. It was fast, loud, and a little bit painful. Made me have new respect for these things.

Mine was even more dramatic. I did it before watching this video, and was not expecting it to explode.
I was trying to replace a battery from a small computer (Acer Veriton) that had some tabs spot welded to the old battery. I tried to get the solder to stick at 400F, and after about a minute or so, it just wasn't sticking, so I cranked the iron up to 800F.
Within about 10 seconds the top blew right off, spraying ashes everywhere, the inner part of the battery was burning as bright as phosphorus, and there were a few other burning blobs on the table. I had some glasses on, but no other protection, and it was right in front of my computer monitor. Fortunately, I didn't get burned, and the computer monitor wasn't damaged (just some ashes stuck to it, which I wiped off).
So instead, I found a CR2032 battery holder that I desoldered off an old motherboard, and used that instead. Much safer!

Just imagine that molten soldier coming on your skin or even worse your eyes when it exploded

Good to see and read this as I was planning to solder a button cell, as a button cell cost here about €2, - and a wired one €27, -, But as I see, It takes a while when it explodes, but as I read the comments It can happen even quicker If I can believe what the say here, I have still some conductive silver paint, I think I going to use that and some tape, , cut A small round copper tape over the wire whit some conductive silver paint and a good press, then wrap tightly with rubber tape I think will do the job save

I was trying to do an internal battery mod on a synthesizer, I swear I did not touch the battery for more than 5 seconds at 400, in fact, I was doing a trip method, and shit blew up. Luckily I didn't get hurt, but the top burnt a hole through a receipt I had lol.

keep in mind the toxicity of lithium in battery, ive misstaked one time in my life, ive heatguned a motherboard but forget to remove the battery on other side , that was not expected, and i have cleaned atomised particles of lihium on oven a complete week like sanded wall cement . you know what ? since this time i have some problem with my short term memory ..

im here because i was not sure if the fact of soldering on it was possible thanks m, now i have a real base for safework gratz from qc canada and thanks for sharing this
