The great Simone Mantia displaying his facility with this theme & variations arrangement of "Auld Lang Syne." I did my best to clean up the sound from the old 78rpm record. In any case, Mantia's brilliance comes through! For perspective, this record cost 65 cents when is was first sold.

Pitch is dead on. Amazing technique at this tempo.

Not only a great player of Euphonium, a great trombonist who, with Charles Randall, another great, were authors the ARBAN METHOD for TROMBONE/BARITONE (Valve Trombone) which became the "bible" for student (and professional) trombonists since the 1920s.

The sound is much different than that of a modern euphonium. It might be the primitive recording techniques of the day, or was he possibly using the small bell of a double bell euphonium?
