MISSED AND GET TACKLED - WHAT THEN - Bruce Lees Late Jeet Kune Do

To tag our friends from @metrolinamartialarts, as a reply to their takedown defence video, (a reaction video to that one will also come) this video is about correct execution of the eye jab mainly, recovering, footwork, following up, also in case of a tackling. Of course strictly self defence! Often its argued, if you miss with the eye jab, you are open to counters. In this video we are showing, how that is not true in Bruce Lee's martial art Jeet Kune do.

Makes so much sense.

Bruce was once asked “what if the guy does this or that?” He responds with “ Don’t worry about what if. Worry about when and how far away.”

Distance and time dictate what target you go for. Not styles or rules regulations.

Makes sense with the footwork on in and out - my next question is on timing with it. If you are a second behind (Hopefully you would not be), and the grab your leg for the tackle that reverse lunge looks difficult. Could you not sprawl both legs back while taking your fingers into their eyes?

Thanks for the video!

Really puts things into perspective in terms of how easy it is to stop someone like a bjj guy or anyone that tries to grapple you. People are clueless.

Howdy Thomas, question for you. In today’s world people see the UFC with takedowns and ground and pound. Years ago, before this, most people did punch and strike standing up or grapple standing up. But if you look at YouTube videos, lots of people go for the takedown and ground and pound now, because it is what they see work.

So, could you please address what happens if we do get taken down and how a JKDist would get back up? I understand we don’t want to go down, but it can and will happen. Thanks👍

Thomas I meant to ask you. I see Paul vanuk emphasises all these head butts. Almost all the time. Did Bruce really emphasis head butting that much? Because it’s doesn’t really seem the the most self persevering of techniques lol. Seems like you’ll end up hurting yourself just as much doing that

I'd be happy if the guy tries to grab or tackle. Gives me more time to finish him with a proper blow, and he wasted seconds that he could have used to knock me out.
Remember, if you grab him, you also grab yourself. Could have used that action to finish the whole scene with a finger jab or punch or kick instead.

If this is a self defense situation, why are you facing off in a fighting position? Now you are engaging in a “fight”, not self defense. You are as liable to be held at fault as the other guy. Most importantly, you’ve lost the element of surprise.
