Hayley went back to school to become a doctor after retiring from hockey. She's now both a practising Doctor and assistant General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In charge of player development. She's frequently on the ice with the Team running them through their paces. Advocate, spokeswoman, mother, leader and great role model.

The greatest thing about Wayne Gretzky, is how humble he is! When one of his records gets broken, he is the first person to congratulate the new record holder. Gordy Howe was the first person to congratulate Wayne when Gordy's records fell.

I still remember watching Donovan Baley breaking that record. One of the best moments ever.

Clicked on this because of the thumbnail of Hayley Wickenheiser, the greatest female hockey player ever! A girl I went to school with played on the Canadian team the last year that she Captained it, and came back with an Olympic gold medal and a serious case of hero worship. Hayley's had an unbelievable career and deserves far more recognition!

Hayley Wickenheiser was the captain of the Canadian Women’s Olympic Hockey team in 2002. In the gold medal game Canada played America. The referee was clearly biased in favour of the American team as the games were held in Salt Lake City. He gave the Canadian team a whopping 22 penalties and they still won, even though they played most of the game shorthanded and even often two players down. Our wonderful women did not lose their tempers, did not start any fights and won with their one hand tied behind their back. Best moment of my life watching them get their medals for that game. Hayley was the leader. She deserves her fame. She has earned every bit of it.

I knew of all of the athletes despite not being a sport fanatic so i would say they are very popular in Canada. However, I was kind of surprised Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (Ice Dancing Figure Staking Pair) were missing from the list. They are the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history (3 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals). They have also won four world championships and nine Canadian championships.

Donovan Bailey is straight up one of the coolest, down to Earth, humble people I've ever met. I was bartending at a members only club in downtown Toronto a while back, where he was a member. I would serve him regularly. He was always fun to chat with, and is super involved in a bunch of other ventures since he retired. Always generous with me, and just an absolute pleasure to be around, all the time. Even when he wasn't having the greatest day, his smile just lit up the room and he would go out of his way to make you feel good.

You could have covered fifty top athletes and barely scratched the surface of our absolute legends. And we’re proud as hell of all of them.

Wayne Gretzky was so blessed in the sport that in 2000 they retired his jersey number: 99... Across the League!

Clara Hughes is the first and only human ever to win multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Also, although it seems counter intuitive, cycling and speedskating are basically the same sport. Both are sports that rely mostly on leg strength. Training for speed skating takes place, in large part, on a bike so if you think about it, it seems perfectly natural for a world class speed skater to also be a world class cyclist.

Almost everybody in Edmonton remembers the Gretzky trade, when he went to the Los Angeles Kings. Even he was crying!

I'd like to see you do a reaction about Wayne Gretzky. Try to find a clip that gives his history not just his NHL highlights, as his accomplishments as a very young, skinny kid are really impressive too and make for a good story. His dad plays a starring role.

Silken Laumann
Laumann was born in Toronto Township, Ontario, now Mississauga. Starting in 1976, Laumann won a number of awards, including a gold medal in quadruple sculls at the U.S. Championships, two gold medals in single sculls at the Pan American Games, a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in the double sculls with her sister Daniele. At the 1988 Olympics, Laumann finished seventh in the double scull. Laumann graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.[1] Laumann won a silver medal in single sculls at the 1990 World Championships, and the gold medal at the following year's World Championships.
Arguably the most famous incident in Laumann's life was during her training leading up to the 1992 Summer Olympics. One of the odds-on favourites to capture a gold medal, her shell was involved in a collision with the boat of German coxless pair team Colin von Ettinghausen and Peter Hoeltzenbein on May 15, 1992. Despite serious injuries to her leg (in her words, "The injury looked so bad I actually wondered whether I was going to lose my leg, because I could see the bone."[2]), five operations and a total stay in the hospital of approximately three weeks, Laumann was back on the water training by late June. Her efforts paid off with a bronze medal, and she was subsequently named Canadian of the Year by the Canadian Club in recognition and was selected to carry the Canadian Flag in the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

After a one-year absence to allow the injury to heal further, Laumann resumed competing in 1994, and she

I don't follow racing but Jacques Villeneuve's father Gilles Villeneuve was also a famous race car driver who got his start in racing snowmobiles, he unfortunately died in a race in the early 80's and his uncle Jacques also had some success in auto racing.
Wayne Gretzky was never my favourite player but he was an amazing player. He started skating before he was 3, by the age of 6 he was playing organized hockey against 10 year old's and outplaying them. When he was 10 he scored over 500 points for the team he was playing for in one season. In minor hockey you will often see much higher scores but that is still insane.

1. The list missed the all time most decorated Olympian Penny Oleksiak 🏊🏻‍♀️. 2. We are likely to see a new 🐐 - Summer Macintosh is tapped to be the female equivilent to Michael Phelps and is widely picked to win 5 individual gold in 2024, and will be a huge contributor on relays.

I think most Canadians know who all of these athletes are. Canadians do love to support our athletes. Even curling! 😉

Hayley W ickenheiser is a great athlete and a good person. We waited for 2 hours in Vancouver to meet her and get autographs, when she came outside she was so apologetic for making us wait. She signed autographs and posed for pics with the whole gang, ( about 25 of us in all) selfies too. She took the time after winning a gold medal to take pictures with each person separately also in a huge group shot.
