Stop Lag and Boost Performance on Your Minecraft Server. In this video, I will be showing you how you can make your Minecraft server lag-free. By default, Minecraft servers are not very well optimized. There are a lot of settings you can change to let your server run better and make people experience less lag when playing. And today, I am going to show you how!

This is a NEW Minecraft 1.20.1 server tutorial. In this video, I will be showing you how to stop your Minecraft Paper or Spigot Server from lagging. These awesome methods will make it so your server stops lagging completely and make your server run amazingly. It is incredible! By optimizing some server configs and installing a few plugins, you can make it so your Minecraft server does not longer lag. ClearLagg doesn't optimize server perfomance despite that being it's intention

Do not use Paper, use fabric, Paper makes almost all moderately advanced red-stone not function, use Fabric instead.

6:09 I wouldn't recommend to set this value on something lower than 8, because the server needs the simulation distance to keep mobs despawning further away than 128 blocks (8 chunks). I had that value on 5 and the cause was, that all the mobs kept staying alive on the world and no mob did despawn!

Note! for people wanting to start a personal + Private Server for survival with your friends. Paper is a alright choice but not recommended because paper breaks a lot of really good 1.20.1 and older useful glitches used for farms. and so for people still wanting to use TNT duping glitche and more I wouldn't use it. I would probably use fabric with a couple of server lag reduce mods or for people with low budget pcs than use normal vanilla server.

This is really up to you, not me. from my perspective I think using papermc server is completely fine. but for me I think vanilla or Fabric server is probably better in my opinion.

👍First of all, Purpur is based on Pufferfish, and Purpur is just more optimized that Paper, (Because pufferfish has more optimization options and is in general designed to be more optimized than Paper)

And you also have the /tpsbar and /rambar command to see nerdy information from the bossbar if you use Purpur + Purprur has so many fun features that you can enable! (All of them are disabled by default to minimize lag.)
And Purpur uses "spark" as the timings profiler which is much better that Paper's Timings v2

But everything else I can say that good job! 🌟

i said dude keep your render distance at 7, if you have lower than 4gb of RAM...
HE SET IT TO 12 !!!, i could not stress enough xD and they keep complaining about why they keep getting lag spikes.
hopefully after sharing this video, they will understand, I hope xD.

6:14 i recommend keeping it to al least 5. else, it will spawn so many mobs near the player. If the distance is high, it will spread out and will not spawn soooo many mobs near the player.

Thanks! I think changing to Paper fixed framerate drops when jumping into certain already loaded chunks on my low RAM free server 😆

i’d recommend pufferfish if ur looking for best performance, it’s pretty much just paper with even more optimizations
purpur is just pufferfish with some extra features (that aren’t optimizations)

this will be useful for home made minecraft servers that have bad cpu's like mine, the server pc has 12gb of ram and an intel core i3 with bulit in gpu

Some usefully tips:
- First of all do not use paper for a vanilla server as it does change quite a few things(the main reasons for not using it are: fixing bugs that players commonly use and breaking farms).
- And paper also allows for more plugin features not just performance! (thats why most of my and other people's plugins only work with it)
- For generating new chunks you can use Folia(this is still in development tho) instead of paper.
- The timings will also be removed(on paper) in the future instead i recommend using spark(purpur even uses this by default)!

What if I am playing on a fabric server with lithium and more mods and want to change those settings in the config folder?

I have 64 GB ram. View distance set to 14. Still experiencing a slight delay in generating new chucks when flying with elytra at full speed :(
Nothing in the server logs telling me its overloaded or anything.. just something that annoys me. View distance at 10 is waaay too short distance. 14 is just fine, and I have abt. 80 mods installed. After watching the video, I think its the CPU thats probably the problem, and the way minecraft is coded. Did a stress test the other day with blowing up just 450.000 TNT, and the Minecraft server stopped multiple times
