In response to a diphtheria outbreak at King’s College Annexe, Victoria Island, the Lagos State Government has rolled out an emergency vaccination campaign to contain the spread of the disease. Led by the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the State Primary Health Care Board, the initiative aims to protect students, staff, and the wider community.
Prof. Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health, alongside other top officials, inspected the school’s facilities, including the kitchen, dormitories, and sickbay, to identify risk factors and reinforce preventive measures. During the visit, Prof. Abayomi urged students to maintain proper hygiene and reassured parents that the situation was under control.
The vaccination exercise targets all students with parental consent and staff members, with medical teams on standby to manage adverse reactions. The government has also intensified awareness efforts to educate the school community about diphtheria symptoms and prevention.
