Researchers from the University of Exeter, the British Geological Survey and the University of Surrey have published a study that addresses the missing link in models that explain the formation of porphyry-type copper deposits.
In a paper published in the journal Communications Earth & Environment, the scientists explain that porphyry copper deposits develop several kilometres below the Earth’s surface above large magma chambers.
