All water sources wash off the overlays. If you have dirty overlays on your arisen/pawn then being drenched temporarily removes them for like 2-3 in-game days

You also get scars if you get hit by slash attacks too much on exposed skin and can be removed by bathing in the hot spring.

Some games had that you get dirty and clean if you go through water, like Ghost recon wildllands. But most games do not go far into details, because many people would also give no credits for.
