Kia EV6 EV Route Planning Added with Software Update! 😀 Kia Connect Ultimate vs Lite Comparison

Walkthrough of the new new software update for the Kia EV6 (and Hyundai Ioniq 5) that's now available in the USA that includes a few updates, but the big addition is the EV route planner from the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The EV Route Planner allows the Kia EV6 to automatically add charging stations to a route when you don't have enough range to make it to your destination. This is a very important feature for electric vehicles to have and I'm glad Kia and Hyundai are adding it to their EVs. In this video I go over the software changes and the difference in how the EV Route Planner works in the Kia EV6 with the base Kia Connect Plan and the Ultimate Kia Connect Plan. Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching!

I was just able to use this update for my Dallas, TX to Omaha, NE road trip. I am not sure I would use it again. It took me to some weird areas and some of the new charging stations along i35 weren't even available. I am unsure if it is because they were newer stations. It took me to some KSU campus where I didn't see any chargers and that was 20-plus miles off the interstate: terrible.

I ended up using ABRP to plot stops on the way home, which seemed to be a better experience on the way back down. There was one stop, an OnCue, that had free chargers there that were giving me 150kW, which was very nice.

Maybe after whatever reporting/systems are updated with current info, it would be worth another go for a long drive. It was better than nothing if that was the only option, but maybe manually plot some reliable-known stops for the time being with your phone and compare it with Kia's nav.

1:30 That is a major improvement. It was quite stupid that before it didn't let you search even when stopped like in traffic, you had to be shifted into park. Unfortunately, I think the Android Auto keyboard limitation is still present and linked to being parked.

5:20 I assume they removed/didn't include the estimated battery percentage because that was a very rough estimate in engineering mode. It is a shame that they don't include it since the infotainment system (right screen) already has access to your driving efficiency and estimated range.

Great video. Was trying to understand this since we are looking at a ev9.

FINALLY! This is great, and I can't wait to see if the charging stops dynamically update. Would also be cool in a future update if preconditioning integrates to charging stop navigation like Tesla.

The one thing the update is lacking is what state of charge you will arrive at and how long you need to charge for before going to the next stop

Great video. I am very jealous we don't have this update here in the UK yet. Hopefully it won't take Kia too long to get it to outside the USA .

Another great video demonstration! I did have one question--how were you able to demonstrate the route planning differences between the Lite and Ultimate plans in the same demo session?

How do you get specify that you want certain chargers? I can’t find where to set up for EA chargers? Thanks in advance

I’m also curious to find out if it will update the added charge stops when you drive in the mountains and SoC will drop faster. And it will automatically pick a charger nearby.

Will the battery preconditioning kick in automatically when using the nav?

Hey Jeff, for navigation, is there a way to use voice command to ask for a specific address?

Does the built-in-nav have an option to avoid Tolls? Might try this for my next trip if it does.

Thanks for your video! Unfortunately they removed that great POI/destination SoC and charging time display 😔

Hi Jeff, thanks for the great videos on the EV6. As I understood, in the past, you could not use ABRP parallel (at the same time) with the onboard (KIA) navigation system. Do you know if this is still the case?

Jeff, thanks for this very helpful video and your other videos about the EV6. Question for you: my new 2023 EV6 (Wind RWD + Tech Package) is supposed to provide for OTA updates via my Ultimate Connection package, but I am being told by Kia software support that the initial update (of the new navigation/maps software) must be manually installed from via my computer and a USB drive. Kia told me that future automatic OTA updates will happen, but that the first one has to be done manually. Have you heard this as it makes no sense to me? What is so magical about doing the first update via the computer and USB drive that frees the vehicle to receive future OTA updates without a manual install?

Got many of these features in my Sportage now. Was annoyed for months that the navigation didn't have half the POIs in my city, which weren't new... and annoyed even more that I have to shift into park at a red light to type in an address.

Wish they would fix Carplay Scaling though.

Jeff sorry to bother you but how do you find the window that allows you to choose favorite EV station, EA, EVGo, charge point etc. I’ve looked everywhere, thsnks
