You must have learn't that Afghanistan has been conquered by the Taliban. This Afghanistan is the same Afghanistan where Khilji and his men were born, and from where they captured Delhi in India. These Khiljis were the ancesters of the present day Taliban and were far more ruthless, cruel and deceitful than the present day Taliban. This will help you to understand the context of the movie in a more realistic manner.
