Welcome to Bodø and A&A Travelling. Bodø is a town in Bodø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The town is the administrative centre of Bodø Municipality and of Nordland county, located just north of the Artic Circle, and it is the second-largest town in Northern Norway.
Twelve thousand undergraduate and graduate students study at the Nord University located 10 kms outside the city centre. The town hosts also the only police academy in Norway outside Oslo. The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority is situated in Bodø, as is the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Nortern Norway. The Norwegian Armed Forces headquarters for North Norway is located in Reitan, east of the city.
The city is one of the of Norway`s windiest cities, and despite its location just North of the Artic Circle, Bodø features a subpolar oceanic climate with chilly(but not cold) winters and cool summers. Snow cover is is often sparse in the city center during the winter. The Midnight sun is above the horizon from 1 June to 14 July.
The norwegian Aviation Museum and Salten Museum are both located in the town. Salten Museum has four exhibitions: The Lofoten Fisheries, a Sami exhibit, a Viking treasure, and an exhibition about Bodø`s history from 1816 to 2000.
The Cathedral of the town was built in 1965, representing post-war architecture, and the Bodin Church just outside the city centre dates from the 13th century, representing a typical medieval stone church.
Stormen the new cultural centre opened i 2014. It has a library, a concert hall and theatter. Bodø hosts every summer the cultural festivals Nordland Mussikkfestuke and Parkenfestivalen.
One of Norway`s best professional football team, is the Bodø/Glimt club.
The town is also home of Bodø Barbarians, a leading rugby league team.
