Here are some more of our Dahlia Videos ⬇️
More Info:
💗 Some Dahlia varieties produce clumps that form very tightly with short necks. They can be hard to divide! Our best tip is to use a sharp knife and slice right down the middle and risk loosing a few tubers. Then divide into smaller sections or individual tubers from there.
💗 You don't have to separate tubers into singles, you can keep them in pairs or clumps.
💗 You don't need to lift and divide tubers if you can over winter. However, over the years your plants may produce more leaves and less flowers. Dividing helps the plant keep producing lots of flowers.
💗 Australia has more humid air than some other countries and we store dahlias differently because of this. We personally don't wrap or store in anything other than putting the clumps in a clean box and on a shelf. No wood shavings, covers or anything.
💗 You can divide in Autumn/Fall after lifting and before storing. OR you can store as clumps and divide in Spring before planting out. We divide in Spring and we retain a lot more viable tubers this way.
💗 Clean your cutting tools between tuber clumps!!! If you spread a disease around your dahlias I guarantee you will cry when you realise!
