Ever wonder "why won't my car start after filling with gas"? In this video I show you how to replace the EVAP purge valve on a 2007-2013 GM truck or SUV.
The vehicle was showing symptoms of an extended crank, especially after filling up with gas, and a check engine light with P0442.

Sorry about the poor quality of video on this one. I didn't realize the camera was aimed too high. I tried to save it though with my awesome video editing skills!

PARTS USED IN THIS VIDEO: (Don't buy the ones at Oreilly's. I went through about 4 of them before I paid the little bit extra for this AC Delco one.)

I know you posted this 2 years ago but you are a livesaver! you quite literally went on to describe every problem I've been having and say the exact code that came up on my car. I didn't know it would be this simple of a fix

Finally a video that does what the title says. The MOST valuable tip you had for me was that clip on the inside to remove the valve! After that ez peezy. Thanks.

Just got done replacing this. At first I had a hard time figuring out the white clip. It was as easy as you said. Hope this was my problem. Thanks again!!

Thank you a million and a half Pete! Just did mine following your instruction. Works perfectly! Though YT doesn't have a "rating" system, I am giving you one. and 5 🌟's!

I think you may have helped me reassure it’s my purge valve that needs replacing. As I get the check gas cap and engine light msg. Imma go grab one of those bad boys payday and put it on. Cheers 🥂

My car doesn't have a check engine light on but I ran a test anyway and I got this code. I don't suspect this my gas cap. I heard that if it is stuck closed that's your best scenario. I don't have any of the symptoms of it being stuck open that you mentioned. Thoughts?

You should have started the engine to hear the difference.

Oh wow I had that message come on today and sure as shit the last guy that worked on my 2006 Malibu 2.2 he layed on top of the motor and broke the plastic tube on the purge valve assembly then just duct taped it back on without saying anything. Gas cap was fine. Now I know why that gas cap message came on!!!!

I have a 2022 Blazer and yesterday the engine light came on for the third time in 18 months and the diagnostic says purge valve/pump. Any else have this problem? Even more important, anyone know how to fix it permanently? I don't have a gas cap, so it's not that it is not tightened.

(2007 Chevy Equinox) - My issue was a substantial reduction in miles per gallon (much more City miles than Hwy miles - was getting about 170 miles per tank instead of about 260 miles per tank). CARR Chevrolet Service Department (Beaverton, OR) could not find the problem (but charged me over $400 just for looking and not finding anything). Years later, my car throws an EVAP code (P0455) and Honest 1 Auto Care (Hillsboro, OR) found that my Canister Purge Valve needed to be replaced (it was stuck OPEN). Problem solved.

Very hard to tell what you were doing. It’s unfortunate every single car has different looking wires under the hood so it’s difficult to know what is what. I have a P0446 code on my 2004 Chevy Malibu with check engine light on. My bro in-law friend said it’s probably the catalyst converter because of that code… is that even possible ? I haven’t seen anyone else mention that .
