1971 Ford Mustang BOSS 351 - Muscle Car Of The Week Episode 292

This 1971 Ford Mustang BOSS 351 is quite a ride, with it’s high-compression, heavy-breathing 351 Cleveland building 330 HP horsepower and competition suspension. This one is also different in that it wears a special order color, and shows less than 900 original miles! From The Brothers Collection.

One of the most under-appreciated Mustangs in history.

The '71 Boss Mustang was the first place I ever smoked a joint. Mt step-brother Mike sparked one, smoked half and said, "You ever smoke this, kid?" I nodded yes. He said, "Finish this..."
Bob Seger "Live Bullet" on the 8-track and fishing gear in the back, we went on to have a splendid day at the lake!

At 21 years of age, I bought a brand new 71 Mustang Fastback. It had the 351 Cleveland Engine, Hurst 4 speed, & functional Ram Air. It was blue, with back interior, and a silver hood. I think it was was the coolest and prettiest car I've ever owned. It was so fun to drive, and it was very, very fast. I'll never forget one Saturday night easily taking it up to 120 mph on I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport. Yeah... I wish I still had that car.

I've never had the privilege to race against a Boss 351 but I know it would be an awesome experience. What a car and what an engine.

My dad had a Boss 351 almost exactly like this. He drove his 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 390 about 400 miles to trade for a boss 351 with a blown motor. He swapped the engine with a 351 Cobra Jet in a motel parking lot and drove it back home.

Wished for one of these in high school, but by the time we graduated the government and OPEC had killed our muscle car era. Oh to have a time machine back to 1971 with this car and 29 cent per gallon gas!

My first car was a black/black 71 Boss. I was 17 when my dad handed me the keys! he bought it when I was 15 in 1976 for $1, 200.00! He used to tell me I was going to wax the paint off the thing because I kept it shinning every weekend with a lot of elbow grease and Kit car wax! Unfortunately a bad man came buy our house on Sunday as we all ate supper. He made my dad an offer for the car he couldn't refuse and I saw half my heart drive out of my world that day, I was sick.... about 6 months later and many disappointing test drives my dad blew my mind again and tossed me a set of keys to an immaculate 1 owner 69 SS 396 Nova! What a beast! But That black stallion stole my heart! I have had many mustangs since and currently driving a 2015 Ecoboost. Love the looks, love the mileage but miss the horses...

One of my favorite Mustangs ever built. Here's my 5 favorite Mustangs but not necessarily in this order:
1. 65 Shelby GT350R
2. 69-70 BOSS 302
3. 71 BOSS 351
4. 69-70 BOSS 429
5. 68 Shelby GT500KR

Our shop teacher in high school bought a black one with the silver accents after he survived his excursion to Vietnam and drove it daily. Sweet car imo. ▪☆☆☆▪

My older neighbors (street racers from Brooklyn NY)were my introduction to my love of muscle cars. Between them and their Friends W-30 442, 340 Demon, W-31 442, 70 Z/28’s and SS 396 Chevelles was a 71 Boss 351 Mustang which with Fords factory rev-limiter disconnected was just as fast if not faster than the LT-1 Z/28. What a very under appreciated car from that era. Would love to own one!

A big reason that the '71 mustang was "up sized" was so that it could accommodate the 385 series 429 engines including the BOSS 429. But Bunkie got fired at Ford, Ford dropped support for racing, and the high performance 429 engines were pulled from production.

I had a 1968 Fairlane 500 Fastback and put a BOSS 351C Motor in it. It was bad ass. That was the most fun car I've ever owned.
