I'd like to believe that Apple's salaries are so high because a main requirement for working there is to be a social person and that removes a lot of the competition for jobs because software developers are very anti social.

Some people are so poor all they have is money. Working on something that will ultimately be the end of human civilization really isn't something to brag about. But I understand, your love of money is all that brings you comfort in this world.

Getting job as ML engineer in these companies are really hard, and the salary is actually not that much, , , many includes in that like retirement, stock etc

All those jobs are now gone... all laid off and asked to go home. Higher the salary, more riskier to lose those jobs in current economy.
