honestly this is the best position to be in. being rich and doing what you love for a living but still being unrecognised in public for the most part. when ellie got nominated for a grammy this year, she posted about it on her story and she was just casually walking in the supermarket 😭 crazy to me considering she’s in the top 20 best selling female artists ever in the uk. sounds way better than being one of the bigger pop girls and followed everywhere you go

You misunderstood Ellie Goulding. She doesn't lack personality or identity, and her recent music (starting from 2020 to present) are not that generic, she was sabotaged by her own label Polydor to only producing and releasing radio-friendly music which explained why she is relevant but not so relevant or in other words, her songs are bigger than her name. Tho there is nothing bad about doing radio-friendly music, but her label just want her to stick to this direction to replicate the success of her previous hits which greatly affected her creativity and freedom to express who she is as a person and as an artist. That being said, making radio-friendly music is a good way to make a hit and be famous, and you can still add creativity and personality to it to make it even better, but in the case of Ellie's label, they only want her to be a hitmaker rather than supporting Goulding with her visions to become a varied artist.

(Not to mention, Polydor stopped promoting her music since her 4th era in 2020 up to her recent project this year. Brightest Blue is such a good album.)

When I think about these artist I think about Arianna grande and I thought she’d be like these girls and wouldn’t survive the 2010s but boy did she prove me wrong! She went from being one of these girls to the biggest pop star of the current generation

The problem is that they are just vessels for electronic music. Their big EDM hits are, at the end of the day, their producer’s song where they are just an instrument on the track. That’s why it appears that they can only strike it gold with singles. Because those aren’t their songs.

Charli xcx could have been an interesting addition to this list, even tho she has cross a line that none of this artists have: get into an experimental phase in which music nerds take her more serious, so I think that makes up for the fact that she is not as popular as many pop fans would love her to be

everybody who has heard Ellie Goulding discography can disagree with her being put on this list, yes she has some generic pop songs, but has compensated with body of works like 'Bright Lights', 'Halcyon' and the first half of 'Brightest Blue', plus she did have more success as an individual with most of her big hits, are as a soloist, she won 2x brits award including the British female of 2014, Variety's decade award, an Doctorate Degree, Time100 Impact Award. Also, she toured ARENAS in 2016 with the Delirium World Tour, the only one on this list who did it. so put some respect on her name.

When i go back and listen to Under The Sheets by Ellie i wonder what could've been if she continued going down the indie electronic route. Nobody can mistaken she has artistry that down to her very tone that made her Pop songs hers.

I’m not sure if she’d be considered a traditional “pop girl singer”, but Maisie Peters has some really good music, her songwriting ability is fantastic.
