IOSS Numbers Explained For Etsy Sellers. What is IOSS? Where do I find the Etsy IOSS code?

From July 1st 2021 customs regulations changed for sellers shipping to the EU. Without the correct IOSS code your buyer could be charged VAT twice - which isn't good for positive feedback! It could also mean your parcel being delayed. Find out where to locate the IOSS code for Etsy.

From Peru, you cannot use an electronic way to link the IOSS number. The most accepted shipping method is postal mail. The high service costs of DHL, FEDEX, etc., make its use in e-commerce almost impossible. Hope they allow you to manually enter the IOSS number on the sales invoice, on the package and on the manual customs declaration.

You've been a great help. I sell items on Ebay and, for whatever reason, i've only just in the last couples of days experienced them charging import tax on my behalf. I couldn't get a straight answer out of them when i needed clarification about attaching an IOSS number & couldn't get in touch with Royal Mail (via live chat) about it either. It's good to know that i can't provide the number in a Post Office branch so i'll purchase an online label and presumably i'll be able to add the necessary info that way. Thanks again. All the best.

Thanks for this information, it's very helpful and much appreciated. But how does Etsy calculate the value? The conversion isn't easy to understand, so I'm having trouble staying on top of my accounts. For example, in my shop I have an item which I sell in the UK for £15 with free postage. I offer a priority delivery upgrade for £1.50. My international delivery is £8. So if I sell an item in the UK with standard delivery, the order total states £15. If I sell an item in the UK with priority delivery I expect to add £1.50 for delivery, which is correct as the order total states £16.50. But when I sell to Europe I expect to add £8 to my £15 item, making £23. Yet the order total states £25.30, while the value I have to declare for the IOSS value is €18.40. I've tried every possible combination of adding VAT to just the item, converting the total from GBP to EUR, removing postage cost, adding VAT to the total... but nothing allows me to calculate the total costs to the same result that Etsy provides. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

10 times i have experienced this problems.

I dont want to pay VAT twice due to the handling fee some companies like postnord have and they wont even listen when you can present the IOSS number in full. Pay'd because it was like arguing with a brick wall.

Tried many times with postnord and they wont listen.

As of now i recieved last week a notice from SVEA/Fedex for a package from india i picked up over 2 weeks ago. Claiming i must pay this and that.
I wrote to the seller and he send me every detail even the IOSS number.

I am pretty much ok with the system when it works and the intentions back then was to stop under-declaring.

But when you are honest, forth coming and getting all the details and sending them to prove that you wont cheat, yet get this letter with a notice then you get left angry.

I will say tare IOSS down and replace it with customs forms instead, you fill out the form before the leaving from international post terminals in non-eu, sending the receipt of the goods and then pay VAT.

I have dealt with postnord many times and their 25 usd handling fee is what pisses me of and now fedex, oh no you dont.

Why is shopping outside the EU so annoying when IOSS fails?
