How to remove red wine from carpet - a dry cleaners guide:

1) Get to it sooner than later, a fresh stain is much easier to remove than an old stain
2) Mix 3 parts water to 1 part white vinegar and pour it over the stain
3) Put a clean towel over the stain and iron with steam
4) Repeat until you are happy
5) Treat with hydrogen peroxide to correct any remaining color

The goal here is to use the vinegar to counteract the tannins in wine and the heat from the iron to draw up and transfer the stain solution mixture (water and vinegar) into the towel.

I hope this helps 😊 Happy cleaning

I’m really happy you didn’t screw this up. I would’ve been happy knowing what to do just after a spill. You said overnight and I about ☠️ 😂😂😂

Hi! Professional area rug cleaner! I love this video and think it is great for people trying to problem solve at home. The only important piece of information you're missing is that is a synthetic fiber rug (probably polypropylene), and they generally are easier to clean! People should also be careful about using an iron because if the rag dries out, they can melt the fibers of the rug. I think it would be awesome to see you repeat the same experiment on a wool rug! When we deal with stains on wool we typically wash with a wool shampoo and spray stains with hydrogen peroxide, before treating with a UV light. The only issue with this is -as has been mentioned- H202 is a bleach, and cannot be used on dyed fiber. Would love to see you give it a shot!

Hydrogen peroxide is not a color safe bleach, it can lighten colors especially darker ones, you should always do a test patch before applying to a large or important area. Also beware of applying heat. Check the material of your rug, most synthetic fibers will melt under the heat. Also heat sets stains, so if you failed in your original attempt to remove it, applying heat will likely make your life harder. If you have a situation just like the video this seems like a decent option.

I really enjoy your videos. My grandparents owned a dry cleaners. It was my first job, and taught me a lot. I respect how you are utilizing SM to enlighten, educate and elevate so many aspects of the business.👏🏽

This works better with a steammop, instead of an iron. Works great

What! I would have never dared to use an iron like that. I’m amazed and so impressed!

You can clean everything easily even with just cold water and soup and towel or Hot water, soup and towel,
Of course when it's too soon!
Try to do it in period after 2 or 15 years 🤔

Works for animal poop too. Urine is different it needs anoxidizer that works on biologics. Not necessarily heat.

Best trick i know is a wet towel over the nozzle of a vaccume sucks the wine right out of the carpet, no chemicals needed as long as you act fast.

In Europe we can buy hydrogen peroxide at different levels of concentration. I don't know if it's the same in the USA. Which one do you use?

salt or soda water is very effective too, but it has to be applied immediately
