A line is a single-dimensional drawing quantity. When a line is used to connect any two points along the shortest path, then it is called as a straight line. The topic "Projection of lines" in Engineering Graphics describes how different 2D views of a line has been drawn in a drawing sheet. The line is usually located in the first quadrant formed by the principal planes and followed the first angle projection.
There are four different positions of a straight line as follows,
1. Parallel to both the planes
2. Parallel to one plane and perpendicular to the other
3. Parallel to one plane and inclined to the other
4. Inclined to both the planes
