God of War Ragnarok: 17 Essential Combat Tips (Early Game)

God of War Ragnarok builds on the foundation of 2018’s reboot, but adds quite a bit new combat options to keep track of, so we’ve assembled 17 essential combat tips for the early game in God of War Ragnarok.

We’re trying to stay as spoiler free as possible for this God of War Ragnarok combat guide, so we’re only going with tips and tricks that can apply to the early game. We’ll have more Ragnarok help videos in the future to cover the mid and endgame, but we wanted everyone to experience the stellar sequel on their own first.

Other tips: Timing a roll or a side-step gives you brief I-frames, you can utilize this even in bossfights (favorite is Thor) though timing can be a little tricky at least for me. The tree stump, which you chop with your axe to create a Frost wave around you, the rock which you hurl into an enemy with your Blades, the log which you smack at enemies, the "Hold R2" Axe move, and lastly the R3 finisher all give you long I-frames.

The Sigil arrows are of crucial use in higher difficulty levels.. they allow you to deal more elemental damage.

Have people found out that if you hold the DPAD left right or down when switching to a different weapon that it will initiate a switching weapon quick attack?

The new pause menu interface of showing weapons, armor, etc is so bad. They nailed it the first time in the GOW 2018
