The most unbelievable part of the story is that he was able to be seen by a psychologist this coming Monday on a non emergency basis.

You Saw Something You Shouldn't Have:
Ah yes, the night I peered into my parents room and got an unprompted lesson in biology

The most unrealistic part of this story is getting seen at an urgent care in 30 minutes in the states.

I don’t know why, I’m not even a dad, but the stories about fathers, losing their children, as always stood out to be some of the most horrifying shit ever

I had no idea what was going on in this until I heard the "Magpie Song". To anybody who doesn't know, the author's interconnected stories feature a being called the Gravekeeper, and in-universe the Gravekeeper possessed a woman and wrote the "Magpie Song" to torment her. He is apparently a type of being called an "Outsider" in Faircloth's works, generally malevolent monster from another dimension. I'm not sure if the Gravekeeper is the very first Outsider or just a particularly dangerous one. I'm fairly sure that this dream bar depicted the Gravekeeper puppetting another host, represented by the large, grey creature that made everybody else tense towards the end.

Since the Gravekeeper thinks of itself as a "flock", I wonder if all these monsters are perhaps connected, and the thing the MC burned off his hand with salt was a fragment of the Gravekeeper or something?

"This will probably be my last entry" *looks and notices the story is only half way through* Something tells me this isn't his last entry...

I absolutely LOVE how complex this story is. Verastahl does a great job writing in a way where it leaves you totally in the dark, but there’s that semblance of the light in the distance that keeps you hooked (also helps when you have an amazing narrator and sound design).

I think, in terms of theories, the creatures are a form of parasite that takes your autonomy in exchange for a continued existence with new perceptions (hence the poem on the magpies/ravens/crows, and the assimilated man in the bar). It seems like the mc’s creature was killed before it could take over, but still has control of his hand (and therefore a connection to its original world/dream place). I guess maybe one of the mc’s night terrors was like in the creature’s land; so, it was able to see him and come over to his side, but had to eliminate all his connections to the world before it could act. I also wonder if the thing that texted him was the barber who was killed with all those teeth marks (and maybe also the assimilated guy in the bar). Idk this story is just really fascinating, and having it narrated just makes it seem even more real and interesting.

"It doesn't feel like a dream. It feels real and mundane"
I don't know what you have when you sleep, but you just described what a dream feels like. Real and mundane.

The same poem about the magpies can be heard in another story called “I found a coffin in my backyard” or something like that!
