School year 1970/1971 when I was in sixth grade you could join the square dance club. The square dance club was big you were part of the incrowd.

Flash forward to last day of school. One of the Square dances we learned was oh Johnny oh.

On the last day of school, they let us go out to the playground and mess around. They started playing square dance songs on the PA system.

Everybody in square dance club came together and started talking. Then suddenly oh Johnny Oh came over the PA system. And I looked at everybody said let’s do it. We went out to the middle of the playground and three groups of square dance club six graders started to dance.

The teachers were amazed. The sixth grade teacher that taught us was so proud. There were some hecklers that were bothering us but the teachers pounced on them and benched all of them.

If it wasn’t for that I probably wouldn’t even remember what happened on the last day of six grade before I went to middle school.

Thank you very much Ms. Stevens a fifth grade teacher that started dance club for the 6th graders. I didn’t go to school in Texas. This was a San Fernando Valley in Southern California.

I can find the name of the song that the Andrews Sisters sang, but can you tell me the version used in this dance? This is the one I grew up singing. I have it in my Readers Digest book!! :) But it's just called Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh
