KDE Plasma 5.14, Zabbix 4.0, Krita Fundraiser, Google+ Shut Down, & more! | This Week in Linux 40

On this episode of This Week in Linux, we have a lot of Distro News from Mageia, antiX, Calculate Linux, and NixOS. Zabbix monitoring tool issued a new Long Term Support release. We'll talk about the upcoming release of KDE Plasma 5.14 and the preview release for Krita 4.2. We'll check out a cool application that makes it easier to make your own GTK theme. Later in the show we'll cover the big Google+ news of it being shut down. Then we'll round out the show with some Linux Gaming and the always exciting and audience favorite, news about technology patents.

On Gentoo there are plenty of tools to handle different cases when something bad could happen: perl-cleaner for a major perl upgrade, python-updater in the past now done by portage itself plus a few tweaks for a major Python upgrade, the wiki on a major upgrade of GCC, the steps to follow announced in the news items when there is a change in the profile, all the native tools like @preserved-rebuild, @module-rebuild, @x11-module-rebuild and similar. So when something bad happens, in 99.9% of the cases it is a user's error. In the remaining cases you are entitled to file a bug. And Gentoo offers you natively the SLOT concept which allows you to have different versions of the same package.
So NixOS has essentially used and extended the concepts you find in Gentoo!

The main reason why I used to use Google+ was because it provided a way to reply to comments without videos playing.

Microsoft patches (October 2018 Update) users lost all their data .. :(

With them shutting down yet another social network, perhaps Google should forget about creating another one? They don't really have a good track record with this side of their business!
