My health care is done by the Veterans Admin. Four years in a row I took the Seasonal Flu vaccines, those four years I got the flu. I am not a party person, most of my contacts with people were over the phone to repair a vacation cabin or in person, I did not come across any flu victims. I did catch the sniffles from a young girl brought to our home for a visit. I don't get vaccines anymore and have been doing fine each year without the vaccine. That's all I know.

Matches my own personal experience when I had “the Flu” as a 20 year old working away from home. Nobody on the crew taking care of me, not even my hotel roommate, caught it. I was coughing, high fever, immobilized, the whole 9 yards.

I read somewhere (maybe it was your book) that stress makes us more susceptible to disease. The period around World War One was certainly a very stressful time throughout most of the world. That could possibly explain the simultaneous outbreaks, not the result of transmission. Our times now are also very stressful due to many factors (civil unrest, riots, animosity between political parties and beliefs, etc.)
