Look ahead! First, I primed the A4 sketchbook with dark walnut ink. With a light stroke of sanguine pencil, I began to sketch the face. Then I reached for the hard charcoal pencil and the picture came to life - every detail became sharper, more intense, until the eyes seemed to literally glow from the side. Using fine charcoal powder and a brush, I began to create deep shadows that gave the face depth. The white chalk pencil makes light flash, like rays of sunlight suddenly breaking through dark clouds. At the end, I went over the picture again with all the tools to perfect every detail.
