TBF most fans don't know wrestlers real names, they don't run credits at the end of every show, literally the first time I've heard his real name

R.I.P Bray & Luke Harper (Brodie Lee), They will be remembered forever.

The thing is most fans won't know the wrestler's real name. It's not explicitly told and displayed in media like an actor's name is. The exception is when a wrestler uses their real name like Cena or Bautista.

Rowan has gotta be the most honest and down to earth wrestler ive heard speak on stuff like this.
Man is criminally underrated

I've always heard that calling a wrestler by there real name "Out in the wild" is disrespectful to the wrestler and makes it seem like you know them personally.

Keeping kayfabe in and out of the ring is why someone like Undertaker was legendary. If I saw Undertaker in 1996 arguing with some random nobody on Twitter it'd kill his mystique.

Me personally if I met Bray Wyatt or Undertaker, I would refer to them as “Bray” and “Undertaker.”Not “Windham” and “Mark.” Because I don’t know them personally, I only know them as the characters they portray on TV.

I hear what he’s saying and he’s 100% right, BUT does anyone know McLovins name? That boy is stuck with that for life

While I understand the point, the argument falters in that, a movie actor makes dozens of movies with dozens of characters, while a wrestler stays the same character for years, and possibly their entire careers, or at least near as not.
A tv-series actor for a (very) long running series would be a better comparison, and in those cases, lots of people know them AS that character, and not the actor that plays it. Compare long-running character in shows like Eastenders, General Hospital or Neighbours.

I mean it's still weird for me to hear people call Triple H Paul Levesque. But that's because I don't know him personally to call him by his real name and that's how I've been used to calling him my whole life

I had the pleasure of meeting Windham after a house show in Penticton, BC in 2016. We called him Windham and he turned around and started laughing. Because we called him by name and were at an entrance to the building he thought we were part of the crew.

It was surreal being backstage and seeing a different side. Everyone just talking and hanging out like they were family (basically they are with each other more than their families, so they are). But I think the nickname thing can be a good thing, to be able to have a house in YOUR name while people are looking for where your character lives.

It's not that we feel like we are owed (actually it's the opposite, we owe the wrestlers). It's better to have the character name because 1: it helps keep kayfabe and the illusion of that gimmick being real 2: It can seem disrespectful because we don't personally know them. 3: Their in-ring names are more recognizable and easier to remember

Long running tv shows have ppl called out by their character. It isnt because wrestling is different its because movie actors play dozens of different characters and wrestlers almost always play 1

We are in an era now where as soon as that wrestling show comes on, we IMMEDIATELY go to the WRESTLING IS REAL part of our brain and can literally act, feel, and believe that everything we are watching is real. It's like watching Forrest Gump and FEELING for Forrest and then after the movie, go "Man Tom Hanks was amazing." Kayfabe is dead but because the line is blurry, we are smart enough to be completely fine with it.

If anything, it makes it more fun and engaging knowing we are about to escape the real world and jump into the world of professional wrestling.

Ngl, I love CVV and usually he has smart or fun questions but that was not a smart question. Rowan gave the obvious answer which everybody should know

It's the difference between movie actors and stage names.

Sorry but I’m more of the Undertaker thinking. It’s not that we’re owed, it’s that they went above and beyond to show that character as being them. Making us believe (which Bray did amazingly

I think people trying to constantly compare and turn wrestling into something more like the movie business is why wrestling will never be as big as it once was. Yes we’re seeing huge success in the wwe right now but it used to be every town local wrestling would sell out the same arenas weekly.
