Finally. Someone who just gets straight to the dang point! No elaborate intro graphics, no monolog about what kind of channel they are and what they do, and no fluff. Just a few simple steps and that's it. I just started learning how to grill, and I just need some simple steps on how to do the basics, which no other channel could do. Thank you for this easy-to-follow instruction video. I didn't know you needed to let the brickets soak before lightning. That's a helpful tip.

Omg...this was soooo helpful. I never let the coals soak before lighting the coals. I wasted so much lighter fluid because i would light the charcoals right after puring the lighter fluid, ugh. Thank you for the video!

This video completely contradicted the instructions on my charcoal and lighter fluid, but it WORKED! Thank you. Not sure why the manufacturers said to immediately light the lighter fluid, but letting it soak was the fix.

This is the only video that gets it right.3- 5 minute soak, light and wait untill the coals are white to cook.

I know this is an old video, but I STOPPED using lighter fluid or veggie oils long ago. I use denatured alcohol which is way cheap and super effective, especially when soaked into paper under the chimmney. Very fast start, no odor at any time. Only drawback I see is that the alcohol flame is nearly invisible and you can get burned thinking there is no flame present.

First time I tried it took me forever to get the coals to catch. I kept pouring lighter fluid on it every time the coals were about to go out and I would just get huge flames. Then I bought a chimney starter at Walmart for like $16 bucks and it makes the biggest difference!!

I've been lighting barbecues wrong all along XD Granted, I haven't been doing it too long but still good to learn how to do it properly, thanks

Won't argue with your method because it clearly works well. I do have a question however. Why do charcoal lighter fluid bottles instruct you to light the charcoal immediately after applying?

I used to use lighter fluid. It always left a funny taste to the food. Once I discovered the chimney method there was no turning back. It is the best. I even use it to start a few coals when I do the snake method. Don't have a propane torch...but I might get one! No lighter fluid though.

dang. It's so easy and I made it harder. It used to take me 30 to hr to get those charcoals hot. I'll try this next time. Thanks for the tip.

One problem with lighter fluid is that it gets on the body of the grill itself. A solution to this is to light the charcoal in something else and then put it in the grill after it ashes over.

I save my used cooking oil and use that instead of lighter fluid. And it keeps me from putting oil down the drain...
