Dreem 2 Headband Review: The Best Sleep Tracker On The Market?

For years, I've been positively OBSESSED with sleep trackers.

You see, because I spend so much time thinking about the brain (and how to make it perform at it's best), I understand that sleep is one of the key, crucial, make-or-break factors.

But, for years, I've been sorely disappointed with most of the sleep trackers out there on the market.

That's precisely why I've been so excited about the Dreem headband - and why I was completely stoked when they agreed to send me a test unit.

The Dreem headband is unique in that it actually tests EEG (brainwaves), in addition to the pulse, movement, temperature, sound, and other factors that "normal" sleep trackers test.

What's more, depending on where you live, it can also stimulate deep sleep by creating what's known as "pink noise."

In this video, I go in-depth on my experience with the product, what I love, what I don't, and how it compares to some other fitness and sleep trackers including the Apple Watch, WHOOP Strap, and the Oura ring.

If you enjoyed this video, and would like to see me do MORE product reviews, please let me know in the comments.

What's more, if you would like to try out the Dreem headband for yourself, you can support this channel by picking up a Dreem using my link:

I just got an idea of why the battery lasts a bit longer than one night maybe its because they know that battery gets weaker over time. If they made it just enough for one night the device might only last for 1 year but since it lasts a bit longer than one night the battery will be good for a few years.

Thanks for the review. I am thinking of getting one. I have the Apple watch with the Pillow app. You mentioned that combination isn't as good as the Dreem band. Is Apple watch/Pillow app better than the Oura ring? How far off is it from the Dreem?

Hi Jonathan,

I just landed on this video while searching for a sleep tracker. I was impressed by the quality of review and became a subscriber after looking a bit closer at what your channel is about. Now to my questions. First of all, I cannot find anywere where I can buy/order Dreem 2. Do you know where to buy it? I am based in Europe.
As I could not find D2, I stumbled on the Muse S. Have you tried out the Muse S sleep tracker? If so, can you please let me know how you think it compares to the Dreem 2 device? If not, could you consider testing it and compare its' accuracy to the D2?

Cheers,
Paul

So, what do you think? Would you wear this thing if it helped you sleep and feel better? Or is it just TOO geeky for you?

How much does this typically cost? I went to their website wanting to buy one but it says they are sold out.

So for a person with Narcolepsy will this last for our sleep attacks? On average my sleep attacks can last up to 19 hours.. I would like to use this not only for sleep at night but also during my sleep attacks to get a better understanding

Unfortunately this beautiful device is no longer available for consumers. It is still the best sleep tracker and sleep coach on earth in my eyes. Especially the deep sleep stimulation and breathing irregularities detection is pretty much unique.

Thank you for the video. I bought the Dreem Band 2 and the Oura ring at the same time in large part because of your video. I'm thinking maybe I'll return the Oura ring also due to your video and the others I've seen talking about it's innacuracy. My hope was that the sleep quality score would at least be consistent and be able to track relative improvements over time. The heart rate variability feature seemed really useful. But now I think maybe it's not so useful if it's incorporated into an innacurate sleep score.

Do you think that the heart rate and heart rate variability data are not useful on the oura? I kinda want to get the dreem band for accurate sleep tracking and the oura ring to tell me the hrv and heart rate that track my stress levels. What are your thoughts on the utility of that? Great video by the way super helpful for me! I agree if the data isn't accurate then how much should you listen to it?

Can it work during quick naps? I wanna see when I hit rem during a nap. I have slept as little as 20 minutes during naps and I'm definitely having some vivid ass dreams so I would like to know how much it can track. My watch cannot track my short naps. And yes I need to nap during the day. I will still sleep at bedtime

Hi, you mentioned that certain features were 'locked' in certain jurisdictions. Is there any way to find out in advance which feature will be available before purchase per country?

Hi Jonathan. Great review. I just heard Ben Greenfield take about this product in his latest podcast. Can you please tell me more about your EMF meter?

I think since I already use a cpap mask AND an eye mask at night I'll just try the oura ring.

Since you turned off commenting on the video you posted about aphantasia: do you have it and how to combat it (presumably because you received some less than positive comments from some pretty frustrated viewers I’d like to politely put an idea to you here instead. In that video you mentioned that a student came to you claiming have aphantasia and you changed his mind by asking him to describe some details about the kitchen in his family home.

I see where you’re coming from with your angle and why it may be easy to dismiss what the student was saying because he could recall information from his memory but here’s the thing,

People with aphantasia still have memories, they just have no visual representation for that memory in their mind. Hard to wrap your head around? I hear you. It’s probably about as hard for you to wrap your head around as finding out people’s brains could actually conjure up a visual representation of whatever they were imagining was for me. (Really still seems like magic).

Consider this example using a different visual impairment that might make it easier to understand.

You’re friend is colour blind. He’s lived in the same house his entire life. One day you’re sat in his living room and he tells you he is colour blind. You tell him he isn’t and point at the wall and ask him what colour the wall is. He’s lived in the house his whole life, the wall has never been repainted, he’s been told it’s red for as long as he can remember. He’s aware that it’s red. “There you go, you’re not colour blind at all” you reply.

He shrugs it off because he’s polite but he thinks for a moment about how ignorant you sound before forgetting all about it.

Just because people have aphantasia doesn’t mean they have no memory of things. Our brains just store and relay that information in a non visual format when we recall it.
