Why The Michelin Pilot Sport 4s's Are The BEST Tyre!

Hello all and welcome back to another video! This time we're talking about tyres, and what tyres I think are best for your performance cars and my BMW M2 Competition. A question that is asked a lot more so with M cars and M lites is, are Michelin Super Sports better than Michelin Pilot Sport 4s's. So in this video I tested it out with a basic 0-62 in the rain on both tyres.

Not overly fair comparing worn out MSS to new PS4S's. Also, wider new tyres. Still, I would consider PS4S's over current MSS.

Put PS4S on my '18 Golf R (Stage 1 APR, Bilstien B16 suspension), did not like them for this car and for the intended purpose. Sent them back to Tire Rack in exchange for PSS which were still in stock, much happier. PS4S do have great grip, great wet performance and quiet, smooth ride. BUT they were squirmy, less immediate during turn-in, and permitted excessive body motion when braking during sweeping turns. PSS much more precise feeling, firmer sidewalls, better feedback. Cannot speak to acceleration traction, since I'm AWD. Overall, to me the PS4S feel more like a "sporty luxury" tire with great grip rather than an all-out sports tire.

Another absolute banger bro! You’re not lying! Big difference when I had my m2, I don’t think people know until they try them!

PS4S have for sure better grip in cold and wet condition:
But PSS in hot or dry condition is still the more sporty, more direct tyre with more steering feedback

Just bought these before for my stage 2+ 440i because I struggle to go anywhere with the tyres I had previous! Getting fitted Saturday!

Super Sports winter it’s a big no no. Have a look at my video from few months back from Peak District. I was all over the road on PSS. They are dead when they are below 12c. Good video.

Did you realise when you went up a width that the profile (side wall depth) also increased, making the Spedo slightly out of calibration and increased the circumference. This will also affect the handling. Normally if you go up a width you must go down a profile to compensate.

Iv made exactly the same change on my own m2c.
Only thing I would add is when its a warm day and your working the car hard on lanes or roads you know well, the ps4s do seem to just take a split second to settle into faster corners than an mpss.
They dont quite have as connected feel at their optimum.
However, those days are rare, and as you demonstrated 99% of the time the 4s is the more capable tyre.
I also find in colder conditions running an extra 1-2 psi compared to mpss helps with some of that vagueness.

Thank you for this review. Since both tires are wider and the same 35 series, there will be a SLIGHT (very slight) difference in outside diameter which will affect your speedometer (in this case read just a tiny bit slower). Worn tires will make your speedometer read faster, so take this with a grain of salt. I consider this when shopping for different size tires, but I'm moving from 255 to 295 wide tires, so I had to move from a 40 series to a 35 series to keep the same outside diameter. Different brands also measure different outside diameters for the same tire size. These are things that I care about, but I'm pretty picky.
I had Pilot SS tires on my Acura TL AWD and loved them. They stuck like glue and wore like iron. As other here have mentioned they were okay, but not great, in wet conditions. They did, however, made me a true believer in Michelin.
I'm in the process of buying a 2013 Corvette Z06 with only 7K miles on it, but still has the original tires. These WILL need to be replaced even though they still look like new. I'll be going with the Pilot Sport 4S since the Pilot SS is not available in the sizes I need.

Great vid mate and I’m with you on having to take wets/semi slicks to a trackday, its a ball ache, the PS4S isn’t an all out track tyre as we know but it caters for all weather conditions when you rock up.

Hi, it seems the PS4S is star mark @6:25 which has a big difference to standard PS4S
Though Standard PS4S is still have a better wet performance and breaking compared to PSS star mark

Nice video. Any chance you noticed one tire picking up more rocks than the other. I’m looking to get new tires for my corvette and would like to save my paint as much as possible.
