Why Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Are Better Than the Rest

I'm often asked what I THINK is THE BEST TRUCK in the CLASS 8 MARKET.
I don't hesitate to say PACCAR TRUCKS - Peterbilt trucks and Kenworth Trucks are the best.
From 33 years of owning trucks, I have found Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks to be very reliable and great value.
I have found the service efficient. Whenever I was in need of warranty work or other repairs, the repair shops were able to schedule my trucks quickly.
This was super important to me, in order to avoid excess downtime.
I found their warranties to be very comprehensive.
Paccar backed up their warranties as well. I've known many truck owners with Freightliners, Internationals and other makes of trucks, who have warranty issues with their trucks.
Kenworth and Peterbilt are sturdy and reliable trucks, which in my experience have served me well for my type of trucking, which for the most part has been long haul trucking.
Reliability, dependabilty and value.... all traits of a good truck.
If you have a truck which is turning a healthy profit for you, then THAT IS A GREAT TRUCK, no matter what the make!!!

My last 2 Freightliners have performed very well. The most recent is a 2012 Fitzgerald Glider...804k on it with only one minor engine hiccup...original injectors, clutch and turbo. Profit has been my middle name.

I work for peterbilt in Denton tx as a mechanical engineer. But I’m one of two or three that have mechanic background. I worked at a rush peterbilt and have the experienced of knowing what fail and what is a better solution. My friend's Paccar threw a rod recently at just over 300K. He has gone through he'll with that engine. May be he is just talking about the truck and not the engine.

Paccar used to be good but now is totally shit. Been running paccar for the past six years and had nothing but problems...especially the paccar engines! It doesn’t matter what you buy these days, it’s all junk now.

Here is my 7 months of truck driving experience opinion.. I drive a 379 snub nose with a sleeper. Accert 550 CAT. 18 Speed. Peterbilt and Kenworth are basically the Harley Davidson of the tractor market. Harley has a dealership in every major city. Lots of available aftermarket parts. Tons of them out there, so usually someone has parts lying around they will sell. Spare chrome parts and what not. I had the opinions while riding a japanese bike before I got a Harley. "I don't need a Harley. Harley's are always broke down. Harley's are over rated" blah blah blah. Finally I got a Harley and see what the buzz is about. Great ride. Parts are easy to come by. Great power and sound. Same thing with a Paccar tractor. People talk them down, because they can't afford one or their company will not put them in one. I am home every night and the worst part about my job is when I have to get into my pickup and drive home. I wish I had a 379 I could daily as well.

As a Peterbilt and Kenworth fan, I stand with you on your comments about Paccar building top quality trucks. We have a production plant in Australia and the trucks built there are all custom built, specced according to their intended work and built to a standard, not a price. Our range starts with the T359 (in 6x4, 8x4 and 10x4 specs) then goes up through the T409/T409SAR, T610/T610SAR (utilising the North American T680 cab) up to the T659. T909, K200 COE and C5 Series. The C5 Series are the biggest trucks Kenworth make in Australia, utilising three models: C509, C510 and C540. The C509 takes the T909 chassis and builds on that to make a heavy duty truck built for heavy duty applications, such as road train, heavy haul and mining.

I'm not going to agree or disagree with you. Plus I've heard horror stories about fixing peterbuilts and kenworth trucks. But all trucks have there issue.

If it’s made by man it will eventually wear out break down or let you down none of them run flawlessly even if you stay on top of all your PM’s things happen. As technology advances trucks are becoming more complex for creature comforts, safety, economy, logistics, epa, creating more things that can and will go wrong. If there were such a thing as trouble free vehicle I’m not sure any of us could afford such a beast.

Some folks on here are complaining that the vid is biased. So what if it is. That's part of our economic system. It's called consumer preference. If most folks prefer kws' or peterbilts then maybe the other manufacturers should work on making a better product. That's all part of competition. Make a product folks like and can afford or your company dies.
