They cannot track it to your house, it's likely a passive RFID chip (since no one is replacing batteries or throwing out balls with dead batteries) which has something like a 100ft max range with UHF. I'm not terribly familiar with long distance RFID but even active RFID I'm finding one source that claims a quarter mile max.

There's really no reason for them to implement a system like that though, they just need enough tracking to calculate the trajectory and speed of your ball when you hit it and read when it gets in one of the holes.
