For the peolple who are uring UEFI not BIOS. While in the Filesystems step: you need to: "If using UEFI, create a vfat filesystem and mount it at /boot/efi" that is the 128M you created in the partioning step.

6:45 It's called a TUI! aka text-based-user-interface. I love these things and prefer them to building a full GUI. There are some nice python libs to build them quickly, for anyone that is into that type of thing.

Of course, you never did a query-repo, and then follow with a full install of the multilib and non-free repos. I'm sure with the addition of those, most if not all of your software needs would have been fulfilled.
BUT, very much becoming one of my favourite channels. Great subject and content of value, which is becoming less easy to find in any of the accredited main stream YouTube channels.
Best wishes.
Stay safe.
P.S. my oldest channel video is a silent video no microphone was available that goes through the install....

First time diving into something thats not mainstream. Thanks a lot for your tutorial. The way you explain it is very clear and passes you the needed knowledge. Cheers

I would recommend this for beginners its easy and simple to install Literally comes with a gui like interface and without systemd

Can you review Project Trident, the new Void-based distro? It looks interesting.

I tried void a while back, a really cool minimalist distro and ideal if you do not need much or install many packages, but I am still using debian as my main distro, just cuz it has more packages and is I belive easier to use, but it really depends on the user tbh.

I use free -h when htop for a quick overview of memory usage. It won't show processes though. Just a quick and dirty look at memory usage vs free.

Thanks for this. One difference I am seeing is that your first update seems to need to be `sudo xbps-install -u xpbs` to bootstrap the upgrade and then a `sudo xbps-install -Su` to update the entire system. Seems like a weird change that just makes everything more complicated and take longer.

I am a recently new linux user and i can say that this is the best decision i took, main reason being lag and always maxed cpu usage etc. But in linux (manjaro) i can vouch that if u dont install bloat, its gonna take very small amount of ram like 400mb ram on cold boot with kde? i say thats hella lot better than windows

I attempted to follow along but after the applying settings box I get a pop-up that says it failed to install Grub and instead of getting a prompt for a reboot it throws me back to the terminal.

So what advantages does void have over runit artix?
I just installed Artix Linix yesterday night. Still figuring some things out.

Awesome tutorial, Kenny! Thanks for this. I just got an old but new to me iBook G4 1.2 GHz from GoodWill with presumably 1.25 GB of RAM (I've not been able to boot it up yet since it shipped with no battery or AC adapter), and I was wondering if you've done any PowerPC Void Linux installs? Is the process the same? Also if I wanted to boot from the CLI only minimal installer for PPC and then I wanted to install GNOME or KDE as my desktop environment would (after an xbps-install -Su) I simply run xbps-install kde or xbps-install gnome and would it pull down all the dependencies like Xorg etc to have it install properly? Thanks in advance.

Still relevant 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, however void doesn't recognize network adapter. Must be the hardware? Using musl cinnamon desktop. I think is underrated.

Since when does systemd have higher overhead than other init systems? I've never had a runit/openrc system use less resources than systemd. Both hover around 25mb ram usage at idle on a very minimal installation of artix/void/arch/gentoo. And CPU usage is the same from my experience, being at 0-1% idle.
I'm not "pro-systemd", I just don't understand where you've seen this. Unless it's a "haha systemd is bloated and meme or something.

If I were to install Void Linux via network and not from ISO, how do I install the KDE desktop environment?
