Since long Arnd gets in contact with lots of workers who will hand over their tool to the artist. Interesting dialogues unfold sometimes, yet the workers are too astonished to find lots of words to answer to a foreigner asking some question about the live of the workers. They are curious and shy at same moment, mainly it’s the first time to get so closed to a man from Germany. Hence long talks seldom take place. This series of short introduction videos is the first attempt to document some of the workers backgrounds, an attempt using a smartphone camera to ban the story into digital pixels ans sounds.
These Interviews are the story for the “Hammerer” series which are showing in various ways the Portraits of the “Hammerers”, in this case the portraits are printed on translucent acrylic sheets - underlining the fact that regular people are just taking the hard work of those persons for granted without realising their existence. As if they were transparent and not part of this world.
Several moments are situations on a scrap metal yard, others are at roadside shops or in production facilities, all have one common subject which is to share a bit of the anonymous workers which are helping to build the new China but are forgotten by the beneficiaries of the this worldwide singular development boom.
