If your opponent has a faster sword. grasp it by the blade when he pokes you preventing him from backing away, then you chop him down the shoulder. You will take damage and possibly die from infection but you will win the duel and save the farm.

Love the attire!
I really miss some of the old styles that have been out of fashion for centuries.
Some of them are quite practical too compared to modern attire...

Historical broadsword blades are very thin in profile while their width is "broad", being meant to cut unarmored opponents. They are very nimble, even moreso than sabres, due to their hilt-weighted balance. I teach broadsword fencing, and they are by no means slow.

Dont overextend your wrist. It's a broadsword. It is not a Cutlass of a hangar. While it is a cut and thrust tool it is cut dominant. When swinging it shouldn't dig into the underside of your wrist. It is meant to be swung more akin to an axe. Overextension of the wrist makes it more difficult to draw back out of your cut to utilize the rear edge of your blade.

I like your kit, but you need to ditch those knit hose, and make some cadadh. No knit hose with men's highland dress, in that mid 18th century period.

The basket jolted broadsword was made even more famous by the greatest of mad Scottish bastards Jack Churchill.

The Highlanders were not fighting for independence, I believe you're referring to the "Jacobite rebellions" which took place in 1715, 1719 and 1745 they were revolutions staged by the Catholic Stuart's who were in exile in France trying to take back their throne from the present house of Hanover. They were mainly backed by Highland Clans though some Clans chose to fight for the Hanovers. English soldiers fought alongside the Jacobites as well this wasn't some sort of England versus Scotland thing it was Stuart Vs Hanover

The earliest use of this sword is from the 1500s

The thing is, IRL the basket-hilted sword would've been used in combination with a targe (and your off-hand would be holding the dirk simultaneously), so not only would you be able to strike with a very effective sword, you could still deflect with a shield and threaten the opponent with the dirk in your shield hand.
Even with a full basket, a properly tapered broadsword shouldn't feel too clumsy to use facing off against smaller swords. The basket hilt gives a big advantage in terms of protection.

If you're worried about an opponent with a more agile weapon I'd recommend a targe, or make like a proper jacobite and just carry a few pistol, blow a half-inch hole in the bugger

To be fair in regards to a faster weapon you would also have a targe which ir you can catch the weapon in the targe gives a great opening! Slim but possible.

Nice display. The free cuts were a bit eh... subpar 😅 but the actual cutting form was very nice :)
A very good introductory short for people to understand that part of material culture. Nice!

These were not used in the wars of independence which were literal hundreds of years earlier. These were used in the Jacobite uprisings which to call ‘wars of Scottish independence’ would be a gross oversimplification. Scots and Scottish highlanders fought on both sides during these uprisings, they were fought for many political and religious reasons. There are also very VERY few accounts of highlanders using mounted calvary.

the Jacobite uprising was not an independence movement Charles Stewart wanted the whole of the UK not just Scotland

I would not want to go up against someone with a more nimble weapon... or against someone with a less nimble weapon. I would avoid any sword fight and any hand to hand fight.
