Why are Americans so obsessed with this simple sandwich?

At least no real bread was harmed in making this video...

Well, when I look at the bread you use, I do not wonder at all.

I understand now where it’s coming from, still not sure if I’m convinced concerning the taste😂😂

Kudos to Andrew for going all-in on this, especially for the thumbnail!

If that thumbnail doesn't stop you in your tracks nothing will. Awesome, Nick! The history lesson was great too.

Think it is pretty funny, americans call this "bread" in 2022🤦‍♀️🤣 Me as a german, I would call it "sponge" for cleaning the kitchen. (Schwammtuch)

I grew up in a town with a Wonder Bread factory and each year we would take a school trip there. Among other goodies we were given minature loafs of bread. (1950's) thanks for the walk down memory lane.

In the UK we grow up all our lives hearing American English because of films, music and TV so we just learn all the American vocabulary. However, I never caught on to the fact 'jelly' in US English actually means what we call 'jam'. To us 'jelly' is what you cal 'jello'. I honestly thought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were peanut butter and 'jello'. So I never wanted to even try it. Still haven't tried it even though I now understand. Is there a particular flavour of jam that goes better with peanut butter?

I like peanutbutter and Nutella instead of Jelly. Tastes great on a Bretzn too.

Hot dang! Again what learned. Thanks, Nick.
Now that I finally know the history of PBJ sandwiches and therefore I'm able to understand their existance, I am going to give it unbiased try.
Pinky promise.

Me as a German: The sweet and salty taste is just awesome! Love it! In Franconia sometimes Schnitzel are served with a blob of Marmelade too. Same principle... But then again i love Pizza or Toast Hawaii too.

Ich hatte gehört, es gibt davon sogar fertige Scheiben. Wie Scheibletten. DAS hätte ich echt gerne!

I’m 65 and I didn’t have a PP&J until about 10 years ago. Mom didn’t like them, so she didn’t give them to us. So I assumed I didn’t like them. Come to find out I do like them.

Thanks for the Intel. I prefer home made Vollkornbrot with self made crunchy peanutbutter with marmite (weird, I know!)
