Putin expands use of nuclear weapons as Zelenskyy seeks U.S. missile support

Vladimir Putin has issued a stark warning to NATO allies, announcing an expansion of Russia's nuclear doctrine. This comes as Ukraine's President Zelenskyy, during his U.S. visit, urges President Biden to approve the use of long-range Western missiles against Russia.

"The condition for Russia's use of nuclear weapons will be the 'receipt of reliable information about the massive launch of aerospace attack weapons and their crossing of our national border,' Putin said. 'I am referring to strategic or tactical aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, hypersonic missiles and other aircraft,' he explained.

This wording indicates a significant expansion of the criteria for the potential use of nuclear weapons compared to the current version of the doctrine and makes a nuclear response to any aerial attack possible."
