Thanks for checking this out! So, a bit of background: there's a video of a performance she did at SoFar Sound in NY of a song called "My Mind". And the performance has gone viral. (If you wanna hear her belt, listen to that. It'll make all the hairs on your whole body stand.) Some time after she did that performance, her mother died by suicide. So this song, and pretty much most of the album, is in her mother's honor. I think her mother was a Science teacher or something. I may have that wrong. But some of the things she says in the song regarding rockets. She also has another song called "Evergreen" in honor of her mother. And yes, you pronounced her name correctly.

October Sky builds a quiet symphony around a particularly potent memory of Yebba’s mother—a high school science teacher who sometimes brought home the bottle rockets her students had constructed for class. “I wrote this whole story about remembering her sliding down the hall and telling us ‘Come outside we’re shooting off bottle rockets, ’” Yebba explains. “That memory came to me and the words just spilled out: this story of her and the promise that she broke, in a way, because she killed herself in October. I genuinely feel like she was standing there in the room with me as I was writing it, in my studio apartment in Brooklyn.”

Her new song Boomerang (Live version is everything!), her duets with Clark Beckham (Gravity cover), Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith are unbelievably great and My Mind is mind blowing!

You have to listen to her Tiny Desk Concert which is 4 live cuts from her first (and only) album and it is FIRE. Her style goes across multiple genras pop, blue, gospel, alternative, folk she is amazing. Boomerang live is great too. Anything Live from her is great!

This song is about her mom, who committed suicide a month after her mind blowing performance of My mind af Sofar. Her mom was a science teacher who loved to make rockets for the kids to watch. ❤️

As others have said, she was "discovered" after her My Mind video went viral. That's where I first encountered her a few years back. I'm a 56 year old classic rocker, but I've watched at least 50 different reaction videos to her. She is a special talent. She's from West Memphis, Arkansas. Her mother committed suicide shortly after her My Mind performance, thus the reference to "missing my mama." You must watch the original My Mind video, plus Evergreen, at a minimum.

My Mind by Yebba
THAT was my favorite. All of her songs are beautiful.
She grew up singing in the church.
Her mom committed suicide 1 week after her performance of My Mind.
October Sky was a song she wrote about that.
Also Evergreen was sung for her mother.
She has raw authentic soulful power in her voice.

If I am not mistaken her mother passed away in the month of October. One listener mentioned her mom was a Science teacher.
I thk you should start with Yebba's Tiny Desk, her live performances are amazing!
Nice reaction.

Thanks for this new reaction! I'm an Angelina Jordan-Dirty Loops-Yebba fan, so you seriously have my attention. To get an idea of Yebba's emotional, as well as vocal range, her performance of My Mind is not to be missed.

For vocals?! Well this ain’t the song you need to hear her vocals on lol. Try her tiny desk. Or her other live performances 🗣
