Around when this song came out I was in rehab in Cali and I actually related so much to these lyrics. To hear them again so many years later is like... I made it. I held on.

It seems like she’s lonely and drinks to mask her pain, and she also sleeps with people because it’s a false sense of “love” but still more comforting than nothing. And it sounds like she’s suicidal and as she gets more intoxicated she’s wanting to give in to those thoughts by hanging herself “I’m gonna swing from the chandelier” “I won’t look down won’t open my eyes” (as she’s about to jump) and freeing herself “fly like a bird in the night” at the end of the night. “keep my glass full until morning light, I’m just holding on for tonight” And it seems like she may have tried, but she woke up later in the day “sun is up” and is now sober and ashamed of attempting to commit suicide. Or ashamed of having the thoughts to do it. “Here comes the shame, here comes the shame”
