As subtle as it is, the grain boundaries of metal in components and wires running through channel strips make each source unique and adds minute subtle phasing differences to stereo sources. This is "why" something can sound "different" just by running a source through different stereo busses. All that to say, when you run all of your sources through the same channel strips, it will pick up a subtle signature from your channel, and that "spice" is added to all sources, which makes it sound more cohesive. When you work purely in the digital realm, there is no printing press at the end each source is going through to add that stamp to it, and hence, less cohesion

Reverb through a distressor and EQ’d to the source sounds best….really nice sounding reverb here btw….i will have to get me one or 1000 of them….lol….it actually sounds on the banjo as part of the distance of the instrument…which is really the purpose of reverb….it creates great space!

Thanks for this! I've usually used chambers and room emulations but do spend a lot of time getting it to thicken the mids and low-mids and not drown/cover the high mids in artifacts/slap/modulation. This should allow me to be more creative with my reverbs rather than problem solve all the time!
