Btw the solution doesn't use barrier blocks either. Feel free to try the challenge yourself!

Now I know this exists, my day has gotten significantly worse.

Better not be something like a diagonal powered rail

I feel like just placing a solid block behind the middle piston then powering the block should work, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about QC to know for sure without testing it

Haha I know the solution, crafty showed me (I can't remember)

It's not keeping the bottom center piston extended right? cuz that would be devious and against the rules you layed out...

As someone who knows a bit about QC I can confirm that neither a block nor a redstone dust on glass will work. The only way I've gotten it to work is by zero ticking the middle piston, and even then it doesn't stay extended. I would guess that you zero tick the piston, then quickly power it with a longer pulse so that the bottom piston doesn't get updated.

Here’s a little explanation as to why you can’t just like place a block with a lever on it due to quasi-connectivity. Pistons have quasi-connectivity because Notch copied code from the door to the piston. This makes it so that if you power the block ABOVE the piston, then that piston is like (I’m not sure what the real term is) semi-powered. What that means is it will only register that it really is powered, or extend, only when that block is updated. How do you update a block? A piston moving right next to it will update the block. So now, back to the puzzle. If you directly power only the middle piston, you are also powering right ABOVE the bottom piston. Then, because you power the middle piston, that then updates the semi-powered bottom piston making both pistons extend. So if you power directly in the middle, the middle and bottom extends. If you try to quasi-connectivity the middle piston by powering a block above it, then of course, the top one also extends. Their spots where they can be powered are overlapping.

It really does seem like quasi-connectivity makes this impossible. The only thing that ignores qc is 0-ticking a piston, but that wouldn’t been a solid output, as shown in the video.

Is it cheating placing 13 blocks around the other pistons? (Pistons have a push limit of 12)

Easy. Wool block in the middle glass below it and a lever on the back of the wool.

I just found this channel, and it definitly super underrated, he should have more followers

You have to make sure the piston gets powered by redstone dust that immediately gets redirected. So when the bottom piston gets an update, it will know that nothing is powering it.

Power the top piston, then power the middle piston without updating it (by using eg. dust redirection), then unpower the top piston.

Is it literally just a repeater going into the middle piston?
