Hi everyone! Here are some notes on our data sources. In general, it's very hard to properly benchmark computer engines, especially Deep Blue, AlphaZero, Leela Chess Zero, etc. We used the best available data and plan to publish updates in future as rating estimates for 2020 and further are made available.

Stockfish is kinda the shonen protagonist who gets beat up but still gets stronger every day

So the strongest computer that humans were still able to beat was Deep Blue version 1.0, rated +2700. Thanks to Garry Kasparov.
Edit: GM Hikaru Nakamura actually defeated chess PC, Rybka, in 2008!! And PenguinGM1 has beaten StockFish and Leela Zero :-D

This really shows how incredible an achievement Deep Blue really was. Nothing surpassed it for more than a decade.

to put it into perspective: Stockfish has broken the 3600 ELO mark, so they are still growing quite fast.

Kinda weird that alphazero self-trained for nothing more than 4 hours and surpassed every single other chess bot

Imagine how cool they must've felt calling the chess computer "Chess 2001". The Future.

After winning against Kasparov, Deep Blue was retired. Still took years for other programs to catch up to it.

Sure these computers might have high elos but they never informed us on the wooden shield technique.

Deep Blue came in like a wrecking ball back in 1996.

Rumour goes Stockfish checks under his bed at night for AlphaZero.

It's kinda sad how Deep Blue was forcefully retired, just imagine how insane it would've been had the creators been given more time to improve it.
