Importance of Air Dams in Corvettes

According to the aerodynamics engineer from GM air dams send the air out to the sides and around the wheels. Not up. That's why if you have a stage 2 or stage 3 they take the center dam off it runs down the center of the car cooling the brakes and cooling the rear brakes.

I was surprised to see my 2011 grand sport has the bottom opening sealed-over from the factory, which means the only air getting to the radiator has to pass through the front grill opening only. I’m just guessing but maybe it has something to do with aerodynamics??

I wonder how many guys have aftermarket front body pieces on their Corvettes that screw up the airflow, but are blaming Chevrolet for their cooling problems.

They breath also from the front ... C6 is an example ... That's why they run colder than c5 and temp goes down quicker than c5 cause the air comes from the grill also no just from down

Tell me about it... What is ignorance when I bought my c5 it came without air dams ...I didn't know anything about these cars and never knew what that piece of plastic was for ... always runing between 205 -225 ... I was like damn this car temp never goes down... Of course not stupid it doesn't have air dams lmao ... Thanks to a friend of mine ...(a corvette collector) that told me to install these air dams and what's their function in the car ...problem solved ...big butty never felt thirsty again 🤘🤘🤣🤣

The 2003 Owner's Manual say the dams are for aerodynamics. Th e manual says nothing about the air dams as a cooling component of the car

According to vette forums this info is incorrect. You can safely remove the air dams to avoid scraping your car.
